Overview

NEW USERS. Follow these steps to set up text message verification as the authentication method for your PirateID user account. You will need your computer, mobile device and internet access to complete this process. Setup can be completed on or off campus.

CURRENT USERS update MFA settings through mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info. See the Related Articles section for more information.

Step 1. Sign in to your Microsoft 365 account.

Log in to pirate365.ecu.edu or mymail.ecu.edu. You'll be prompted to set up multifactor verification (MFA) for your ECU PirateID user account.

Step 2. Click Set it up now (students) or Next (staff).

The Additional security verification dialog box opens.

  1. From the How should we contact you? section, choose Authentication phone from the first drop-down menu.
  2. Select your country or region from the next drop-down and then enter your mobile number in the third text box.
  3. From the Method section, choose Send me a code by text message. Click Next.

Step 3. Enter the texted test code to verify your number.

On your computer you will see this message, "We've sent a text message to your phone at +1 xxx-xxx-xxxx." Enter the code sent to your mobile device into the text box on your computer. Click Verify.

Congratulations! The text message verification for your ECU PirateID account is now set up.
