Overview

To "map" or "mount" a drive means to create a shortcut to a resource you often use, such as a Piratedrive folder. Please be connected on campus (INTRA) or through a VPN connection

NOTE: You can map a drive to your personal Piratedrive through the folder name: "piratedrive.intra.ecu.edu\your-folder-name" or by replacing the folder name with HOME: "piratedrive.intra.ecu.edu\HOME." Either method works for macOS or Windows. Your department folder Piratedrive, administrator provides the folder name. 

macOS

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Press Command + K to open the Connect to Server window.

  3. Enter the network drive path: smb://Piratedrive.intra.ecu.edu/HOME (see example below) OR your folder name(doej).

  4. Click Connect.

  5. Enter your ECU login credentials.
    ""

Windows ECU-managed

The computer is ECU-managed, and you are logged in. Note: You can only connect to folders for which you already have access. Screen shots taken using Windows 11.

  1. Open File Explorer. Windows logo key + E on the keyboard.
  2. From the folder list, right-click This PC. Choose Map Network Drive from the available options. the Map Network Drive dialog box opens.

  3. Choose a different drive letter or leave it at the default.
  4. Type the address (path) to the resource. Example: \\piratedrive.intra.ecu.edu\HOME (or folder-name as the example).
    NOTE: Slashes lean to the left. Replace "folder-name" (example) with the name of your folder.
  5. Check the Reconnect at sign-in box to make the mapped drive available in File Explorer every time you log in to this computer.
  6. Click the Finish button.

Windows Personal and ECU Health

If your computer is a personal computer and not owned by ECU (staff, faculty or student), follow these steps to map the drive:

  1. If you are off campus, connect to the ECU VPN first. If you are on campus, start with Step 2. 
  2. Open File Explorer. Windows key + E.
  3. From the folder list, right-click This PC. Choose Map Network Drive from the options list. The Map Network Drive dialog box opens.

  4. Choose a different drive letter or leave it at the default.
  5. Type the address (path) to the resource. Example: folder: \\piratedrive.intra.ecu.edu\folder-name.
    NOTE: Slashes lean to the left. Replace "folder-name" (example) with the name of your folder.
  6. Check the Connect using different credentials box.
  7. Click the Finish button. The Windows Security dialog box opens.

  8. From the Windows Security dialog box, enter your PirateID as follows: intra\PirateID, then the password.

  9. Click the OK button.
  10. Your mapped drive is now available from File Explorer's folder tree on the left.
