Summary

Create a reusable ChatGPT Skill for repeatable tasks, then test, share, update or deactivate it.

Body

What it is

A Skill is a reusable workflow that tells ChatGPT how to perform a specific task consistently. Skills may include instructions, examples and supporting files. This should remain draft until ECU confirms Skills availability and governance.

Responsible use reminder! Use ChatGPT Edu only in accordance with ECU guidance, instructor expectations, and applicable data-protection requirements. Do not enter restricted, confidential, regulated, or sensitive ECU information unless the use case has been approved.

Step 7

Test the skill with sample content.

Step 8

Share with approved users or groups only after review.

Step 9

Update or deactivate the skill if the workflow changes or should no longer be used.

Sample prompt

Create a skill called Meeting Notes. When I share rough meeting notes, turn them into a clean summary with four sections: Summary, Decisions, Action items with owner and due date, and Open questions. Keep it short and in plain language.

Expected result

A new skill appears in the user’s skills list and applies the repeatable format when matching content is provided.

Troubleshooting

  • Skills may be beta or not enabled in ECU’s workspace.
  • Do not include restricted information or unsupported policy guidance in shared skills.
  • Test with safe sample content before sharing.

ECU validation checklist

☐ Whether Skills are enabled for ECU

☐ Who may create and share Skills

☐ Internal review process before publishing Skills
