What to know about the sync feature in OneDrive
- Never store or sync sensitive data to your computer.
- Store sensitive data to OneDrive with appropriate University Data Governance permissions.
- Do not sync sensitive data between OneDrive and your computer. You can choose which folders to sync.
- Access synced files through Windows File Explorer and macOS Finder.
- Files are synced immediately (large files will take longer to sync).
- The synced file will use space on your computer. For example, if your OneDrive files take 500GB, you need 500GB of storage on your computer. There is a copy of each file on both computer and OneDrive.
- If you delete a synced file from your computer, it will be deleted from the OneDrive space and vice versa. OneDrive includes a restore feature for deleted files.
- You can choose which files or folders you want to sync. You do not have to sync the entire folder.
