Overview

Account authentication (MFA sign-ins) and password resets are now managed through Microsoft 365's Security Info. You no longer need to use the pirateid.ecu.edu self-service password reset service – all your account security is now under one umbrella.

Faculty and staff assigned an ECU-managed macOS computer will continue to manage their ECU password resets through their computer. 

Password Reset

A password reset is required annually.

Step 1

From a computer, navigate to your Microsoft 365 Security Info: mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.

Step 2

Click Password in the list (or Change Password in the menu).

Step 3

The Change your password dialog box opens. Type in your current ECU password. Type in and confirm your new password. click Submit.

Step 4

The Success, password changed dialog box opens. Click Done

You also receive an email reminding you to update devices, such as your mobile phone or tablet with your new password).

Step 5

While in Security Info, check to make sure you have both password reset methods, phone number AND alternate email address, set up as well as multiple MFA sign-in methods. Add a method by clicking the Add a Sign-in method link.

Password Unlock

If you are locked out of your ECU user account or can't remember your password, follow these steps to recover your login. 

Step 1

Navigate to passwordreset.microsoftonline.com.

Step 2

The Get back into your account dialog box opens. Type in your FULL email address and the captcha letters to continue. Click Next

Step 3

The verification step 1 dialog box asks you to choose a method for verification. The methods you have set up will show as options. We recommend all users have several verification methods set up for their ECU account. Set up through Microsoft 365's Security Info

Step 4

Follow the dialog boxes to verify your account and change your password. Click Finish. You will see a dialog box that reads, "Get back into your account; Your password has been reset"
