Body
This article is for faculty and staff receiving a replacement ECU computer. An ECU-managed computer is one purchased by your department and assigned to you. ECU-managed computers are state property, even if purchased through grant funds. Therefore, these systems are set up to follow security and other policies as required.
Before your current ECU-managed computer is switched to the new model, please complete these tasks.
Task 1. Create a data backup
This backup should include your Outlook Personal Folders, browser favorites, documents saved to the desktop, the documents folder and pictures/videos plus any other files you need to transfer to your new computer. You are responsible for backing up your data. You will have 10 business days to recover any missing data from your old computer.
If your department has purchased a CrashPlan license your backup may already be complete. See these KB CrashPlan tutorials for migrating your backup.
For those users creating a backup for the first time, see the related articles for recommendations and instructions.
Task 2. Sign out of iCloud
Mac users: Apple ID, iTunes and other features will no longer be available to you on this computer. See this Apple support article to learn more.
Task 3. Inventory your system’s software
This inventory serves a double purpose:
- You need to know which programs* to install on the new computer, and
- It's easier to complete your required software license inventory.
*Be sure to document product keys and/or serial numbers for any software you have installed that is not included on the default ECU image.
Windows users can find their programs and features through the control panel:
- Right-click the Start button
- Choose Apps and Features
- Applications installed on ECU Windows computers include: Office 365, Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox, Microsoft Edge, Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, Alertus, Cisco Secure Client (AnyConnect VPN/Secure Endpoint), Cisco Umbrella Roaming Client, Microsoft endpoint management client.
Mac users can:
- Look in the Applications folder
- Applications installed on ECU Mac computers include: Mozilla FireFox, Google Chrome, Alertus notifications, Cisco AMP Client, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and Cisco Umbrella Roaming Client.
