Overview

Part of Microsoft 365, Teams is a collaboration platform that unifies chat, voice, video and file sharing and allows users to stay organized for projects, research, instruction and more -  both individually and in work teams.

Features

Main features

  • Desktop/mobile/web. Log in to pirate365.ecu.edu to download the desktop app or open the Teams web version. Visit your mobile device's app store for the mobile version.
  • Team Space. Create a collaboration space for a group. All ECU teams are private, not public.* Non-ECU collaborators can be added as guests using their email address. These resources are created for your team when you add members (create the group):
    • MS 365 group. Automatically created when you add team members; can be owners (two are required), members or invited guests.
    • Channel. Focused topic, text conversation within a team. A channel can be open to all team members, private between certain team members or shared with a non-team user.
    • SharePoint team site. Create, edit, upload and securely store team and chat files through the team's SharePoint space. Each team channel has a separate folder within the SharePoint team site.
    • Team Exchange inbox and calendar.
  • Your Space. Teams features for you individually; not associated with a work group.
    • Chat. Private conversations between two or more ECU users. Video/audio calls and text.
    • Activity. Notifications of team updates, reactions and more.
    • Calendar. Syncs with your Outlook calendar. Schedule and join meetings. 
    • Calls. Make a call to one ECU contact or several.
    • People. App for managing contacts.
  • Meetings. Schedule with a group or individuals. Can be audio or video.
  • Webinars. Host an interactive, online presentation for up to 1000 participants or give a speech to 10,000 users through the view-only experience. To learn more, see this support page from Microsoft, Get started with Teams webinars.

*For security reasons, newly-created public teams automatically change to private within 24 hours.
