Are faculty and staff able to print in the computer labs?

No, faculty and staff are not allowed to print in student computer labs unless printing is an instructional requirement for a class and a special printing account has been created.

Very few courses have been identified with this need. If you are teaching a course where you instruct students how to print, such as a GIS class using a specialty plotter or a printing and graphics course in art, please submit a service request at ithelp.ecu.edu indicating you require a course allotment. Course allotments require department chair approval.

Are refunds given to students if there’s a balance at the end of the semester?

No, there is no refund mechanism with the print management system. All ECU balances are reset each fall; personal leftover funds roll over in the fall and remain in the account until the student leaves ECU. Once a student graduates or leaves ECU, any remaining funds – even personal funds – are lost after two semesters.

Can I submit a print job from my mobile device?

Yes! New for fall 2017, students can now print wirelessly from a mobile device. See these instructions. Must be on campus

Can I submit a print job that goes over my allotted pages and pay for the balance?

No, you will need to have the account balance available before you print the document. For additional questions regarding printing, please email helpdesk@ecu.edu or call 252.328.9866.

Can my student organization print in a computer lab?

No, student organizations are not awarded a print allotment and should contact Justin Janak, janakj@ecu.edu

Do I get a discount for duplexed documents?

At this time, there is no discount for duplexed documents. However, duplexed documents reduce your total pages by half.

How do I check my print balance?

There are two ways to check your print balance. First, when you log in to a lab computer or print kiosk, a window pops up showing your current balance.

Second, log in to pirateprint.ecu.edu to see all transactions, including balances and jobs printed. This is also where you log in to add funds to an account.

How do I print my research paper?

When you log in to the computer lab printer or print kiosk, a pop-up window shows your print balance. When you press the Print button, another window shows the document name, the number of pages and the cost to print. This gives you the opportunity to check everything and make sure you want to print. Remember, there are no credits for a botched print job!

How many pages can I print per year?

1500 black/white ($0.02) or 300 color copies ($0.10) or any combination of b/w and color. Printing from a plotter is $0.10 per square foot.

I have run out of funds! How do I add more funds to my account?

Log in to pirateprint.ecu.edu to add funds to your print account through personal credit or debit card. There is not a cash alternative to pay for printing.

Personal funds stay in the account (although leftover ECU funds are lost each fall) until they are used or the student leaves ECU. If you have added funds to your account, be sure to consider whether you will spend all those monies. There are no refunds of personal print funds. Therefore, when you leave the university, all funds are lost.

I’m staff and have work-related documents to print but no access to a printer. May I still print in the computer lab?

Staff are not allowed to print from lab computers. However, both Joyner and Laupus libraries allow staff to print

  • Joyner: b/w = $0.02 per page | color = $0.10 per page. Cash and debit/credit cards accepted
  • Laupus: b/w = $0.02 per page | color = $0.10 per page. Cash and debit/credit cards accepted ($5 minimum).

Is there a print quota I must follow?

Yes, there is a print management system for enrolled students. See the print management web page for quotas, restrictions and other details.

What happens if I have print balance left over at the end of a semester?

Any leftover print funds from fall semester roll over to spring; leftover spring funds roll over to summer. All accounts are reset each fall and any unused ECU allotment is lost. Personal funds added through a debit or credit card remain in the account until they are used or the student leaves ECU.

When a student leaves ECU, all funds are lost-there are no refunds.

What if I don’t use all my quota in a semester?

Leftover print funds from fall semester roll over to spring; leftover spring funds roll over to summer. Each fall, any remaining ECU print funds are lost when the account balance is reset. Personal funds added through a debit or credit card remain in your account until used or you leave ECU. When you leave ECU, all funds left in the account at that time are lost.

What if my printed document doesn’t look like it should? Can I get a credit for a botched job?

There may be circumstances beyond your control where a credit back to your account may be applicable. In that case, please submit a service request at ithelp.ecu.edu. Be sure to describe what has occurred, the lab room number and building name and the time of day.

You can also call the IT Help Desk, 252.328.9866, to request a service ticket be entered for you. The phone number and other contact information is posted at each lab computer.
