Does Webex work if my computer is behind a firewall?

Webex is quite firewall friendly and is not likely to cause you any problems. If you experience problems, configure your firewall with network ports 443 and 80 enabled to allow outgoing TCP network packets.

How do I test my Internet connection speed?

Speedtest.net is a website where you can test your connection speed. Results may vary with each test.

What if I get kicked out of Webex?

Ensure your Internet connection is adequate to run Webex. We recommend using a wired connection due to the vulnerability of wireless. Wait 60 seconds before re-entering to ensure that Webex recognizes you have exited.

Where can I download the Webex app for my mobile device?

iTunes store or Google Play Marketplace.

Why can I hear everyone speaking but they can't hear me?

  1. Make sure you have permission to use the microphone. The instructor can mute participants. Even if you have been given permission, you may still need to click the microphone icon to be heard.
  2. Some microphones have power switches. Ensure your microphone is powered on.
  3. Make sure that the microphone is securely plugged into your computer.
  4. Run the Webex Audio Connection Wizard by selecting the Audio drop down >>Audio and Video Connection… Use this to ensure that you have the correct microphone selected for computers with multiple microphone inputs and that the audio level is not set to zero.

Why is my audio sounding choppy and/or the graphics not loading properly?

  1. Use a Wired Connection: Webex requires a consistent bandwidth to function correctly. Poor bandwidth (speed) can degrade the quality of video, audio and slides. We recommend using a wired connection for optimal performance.
  2. Quit the Session: Try quitting the session and reconnecting to get a better connection.
  3. High Traffic: High traffic on your home network or your Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) network can degrade performance.
    • Decrease or avoid streaming media during sessions.
    • Contact your ISP to make sure you have sufficient bandwidth.
