Accessible event email. Design an accessible email announcement following this guide.

Address book updates. Directory information in the Outlook and ECU Directory is updated through PiratePort's Employee Self Service app. See these instructions. Also...

Alumni email. An ECU graduate's student.ecu.edu email account automatically converts to ecualumni.ecu.edu. alumni information page and setup/management tutorials.

Auto-forwarded email. For improved security, auto-forwarding your ECU email to an external email account is disabled for faculty and staff.

Data Loss Prevention (DLP). DLP prevents the accidental breach of sensitive information through an unencrypted email sent outside the ECU network. Learn more.

Department email account. Departments create a team in Microsoft 365 Teams for department members that includes chat, file sharing, email and apps. Learn more about Teams.

Email encryption. A required security standard for email containing sensitive information sent to recipients outside the ECU network. See these instructions.

Email management. Users manage where and how long messages are stored. Faculty and staff have an Exchange archive folder available in Outlook desktop and Outlook on the web (no mobile access). More on storage management.

Email setup. Desktop app included with Microsoft Office download, just add your ECU account using these settings. Mobile app available - phone PIN required.

Exchange cached mode. Exchange items sync to your Outlook desktop app to allow working offline. Toggle on and off through Send/Receive menu.

Exchange spam filter. Microsoft Exchange spam filter screens and quarantines suspicious email before it reaches your inbox. Spam is sent to the Outlook Junk folder. Learn more.

External sender banner. An external sender alert is added to the top of email sent from outside ECU. This warning may help determine whether an email is legitimate or a possible phishing scheme.

Multifactor Account Authentication. MFA, also called two-step account authentication, is a security action to verify your identity during log in to ECU resources on or off campus. See these setup and management instructions.

Outlook desktop app, Outlook mobile. Outlook is the only ECU-supported email client for Mac, PC and mobile devices. Outlook is installed on university-owned computers and is also part of the MS Office software download available through a faculty, staff and student Microsoft 365 account.

Outlook on the web. Opens ECU Exchange email in a browser. Login is mymail.ecu.edu.

Phishing email. Don't be an unwitting victim of identity theft! Read the phishing email article for tips on spotting these scams and what to do if you fall victim.

Retiree email. Retirees can reactivate their ECU email within six months of their last work day by following these steps. The account must be used at least once a year. Accounts not reactivated are deleted.

  1. Go to pirateid.ecu.edu.
  2. Enter the last PirateID and the page's captcha text.
  3. Press Next.
  4. Type ECU ID (Banner number).
  5. Answer user-unique questions.
  6. Follow the rest of the prompts to reactivate your account.

URL Safe Links filter. Outside links are filtered to identify them as safe or malicious. Safe links work when clicked. Malicious links are blocked.
