Overview
These instructions document the Single SSID method for students, staff and faculty to directly connect (onboard) a Linux device to the eduroam network. During setup, the JoinNow wizard checks minimum requirements and installs a certificate on the device. This certificate is active for four years. New PirateIDs must already be activated to complete this process.
IMPORTANT! If you are already connected to the internet (ecu-wifi, ecu-guest, cellular service, etc.), open a web browser and navigate to http://onboard.ecu.edu and SKIP TO STEP 2.
Step 1
Connect to the ecu-guest wifi network. Click Proceed to ECU Main Website when prompted. Then, open a web browser and navigate to onboard.ecu.edu.
Step 2
From the ECU Network Configuration Utility dialog box, click the Join Now button. Click Save File, then OK in the Opening SecureW2_JoinNow.run dialog box. The computer saves the SecureW2 Wrapper to your Downloads folder.
Step 3
Right-click anywhere on the desktop's home screen to open a command-line terminal. Select Open Terminal from the context menu. Navigate to your Downloads folder using the cd command.
Step 4
Run the following command within Downloads: sh SecureW2_JoinNow.run . This runs the wrapper. Click Next to launch a separate dialog for authentication.
Step 5
The wrapper opens the Microsoft login screen in a browser. Enter your ECU email address. Click Next. If you are off campus, authenticate using MFA. The ECU Single Sign-On page opens.
Step 6
Enter your PirateID and password into the SSO page dialog box, then click the Sign In button.
Step 7
Your credentials process and a certificate is issued.
NOTE: If these instructions are not successful, you may need to disable, then re-enable your WiFi adapter to connect to eduroam. First, click the WiFi button (top right) and DESELECT, THEN RESELECT the Enable Wi-Fi option from the drop-down menu. Next, try these instructions again.
