How to Install, Configure, Restore CrashPlan for Windows

Install the Desktop App*

  1. Navigate to the ECU Download Center.
  2. Scroll to the CrashPlan Pro entry. Click the Click here to access software link.
  3. Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  4. Choose either the 32-bit or 64-bit version. See this article from Microsoft to determine which version you need.

  6. Once installed, CrashPlan prompts for your password.""
  7. The Code42 CrashPlan home page opens, and the first backup of your local disk C:// drive begins. From this interface, you can also view the details of your backup set, customize which files are in the set or restore files (Get Files) to your computer. CrashPlan runs continuously in the background.""

 

Add Additional Drives to the Backup Set

Additional drives, such as external hard drives or USB flash drives can be added to your computer’s backup set.

  1. Attach the drive to your computer.
  2. Log in to the Code42 home page: 1) Click the Code42 icon in the taskbar or choose Code42 from the alphabetical app list.
  3. From the computer you are using, click Details. You should see two areas: 1) ECU Main and 2) ECU Custom. NOTE: ECU Main is your C drive and cannot be altered.
  4. From ECU Custom, click Manage Files. Select the drive you are adding. Then click Save.

Restore a File

  1. Log in to the Code42 home page: 1) Click the Code42 icon in the taskbar or choose Code42 from the alphabetical app list.
  2. Click the Get Files button. A folders list opens. Continue to navigate to the file/s you are retrieving.
  3. Check the box beside the file/s. Click the Get Files button. The Get Files Options dialog box opens. You can choose:
    1. Where the file will be restored
    2. To overwrite or rename the file
    3. To keep current or restore previous file permission
  4. Click the Go button.

Install CrashPlan Desktop App on Additional Computers

You may install CrashPlan on up to four ECU-owned computers. Repeat the install steps 1-6 above. The only difference between the initial setup for your first computer and subsequent systems is that a Create your account screen opens.

  1. Click the Existing Account radio button.

  2. Complete your PirateID, password and PROeServer address (treasurechest.ecu.edu:4282)
  3. Click Sign In. The initial backup will start, and you can select additional folders to the backup set.
