Overview

When attempting to access the Banner Admin Pages, users may receive a login error such as: User not authenticated or Session Initialization Failed - Couldn't access remote session service

The quickest way to resolve these errors is to completely close and then restart the web browser being used to access Banner. If the login error persists after resetting the browser, try to resolve using the following steps. 

Step 1

Check that you are connected to the ECU virtual private network (VPN) at remoteaccess.ecu.edu. 

Step 2

Clear your browser cache.

  • Firefox. Click the hamburger menu (upper right) and choose History, then Clear Recent History. Try to log in again. If you receive either error, proceed to Step 3.
  • Google Chrome. Click the three-dot menu (upper right) and choose Delete Browsing Data… Log in again. If you receive either error, proceed to Step 3.

Step 3

Reboot (restart) your computer and try to log in again. If you receive either error, proceed to Step 4.

Step 4

Open a private browsing session.

  • Firefox. Click the hamburger menu (upper right) and choose New Private Window.
  • Google Chrome. Click the three-dot menu (upper right) and choose New Incognito Window.

If this does not work, proceed to Step 5.

Step 5

Try to log in using the Microsoft Edge browser (Windows) or Safari (Mac). 

If you are still unable to log in to Banner INB after trying any of these options, please call the IT Service Desk at 252-328-9866 or enter a Banner Support service request.
