What is Windows Hello for Business?
Windows Hello for Business is a robust authentication technology designed to enhance security and convenience for ECU users. You have the choice to log in to your Windows 11, ECU-managed computer using biometric data (facial recognition; fingerprint if available) or a 6-digit PIN to provide phish-resistant two-factor authentication that relegates your 15-digit ECU password to a backup sign-in method (yes, you still need to manage your password). WHfB encrypted log in credentials reside on your computer which significantly reduces the risk of credential theft, making it much harder for attackers to gain unauthorized access.
Convenience
- Login to your system is easy, fast and seamless
- After log in with WHfB, enjoy quick access to your SSO apps - no login required (Edge browser only)
Security*
- Login credentials reside on your computer ONLY
- WHfB Is phish-resistent two-factor authentication with biometric or PIN credentials
- Your ECU password is now a backup method of authentication
*Please note! While WHfB SSO access is a welcome convenience, you must make sure to LOCK your computer screen if you leave your system unattended. Tip: Win key + L

Update Biometric or PIN Settings
NOTE: Using biometric login requires either the laptop camera or a USB infrared camera. You are not required to use a biometric method. See the Related Articles for more info.
WHfB is set up during your Windows 11 upgrade/replacement appointment. If you choose facial recognition, that will be configured using the computer's infrared camera. If you choose a PIN login, have those digits ready.
Windows 11 makes it easy to update your PIN or configure biometric log in through the updated Settings app:
- Open the Settings app found in the Start menu or search Sign-in options.
- Choose Accounts.
- Set up facial recognition or change settings by clicking the down arrow.
- Change your PIN number by clicking the change PIN button.
