What is passwordless login?
Microsoft has announced the retirement of both SMS text and phone call account authentication beginning February 2027. As we transition away from these two MFA methods, we encourage ALL users to take this opportunity and move to a passkey form of MFA.
Skip the password! ECU now allows three passwordless authentication methods – Microsoft Authenticator app, Yubico security key, and Windows Hello for Business (ECU-managed Windows 11 only).
Key benefits
- Security – PHISHING-RESISTANT, presently, the most secure login methods.
- Convenience – Quicker sign on.
- Mobile – The Yubico security key* and MS Authenticator app allow you to log in from any device; WHfB is specific for your ECU-managed Windows 11 computer.
- Simplicity – Faster log in to most resources. Your 15-digit ECU password is still required but becomes a backup login method.
- Privacy – Private login information is saved in the Authenticator app passkey, Yubikey USB security key or computer (WHfB). Public login informatin is saved on the account server. When you log in, the private and public information "shake hands" to prove you are you.
