Overview
Piratedrive is a 5GB network attached storage (NAS) folder available to users and departments. Folders are password-protected and backed up nightly. Disk activities using any ECU NAS,option, including Piratedrive, must conform to the Academic Computer Use Policy and the University Student and Employee Computer Use Regulation. See the Piratedrive overview article for more details. Note that you can only map a drive to resources for which you already have access.
To "map" or "mount" a drive means to create a shortcut on your computer to a resource like your personal or department Piratedrive or other NAS folder.
Prerequisites
- Your computer is ECU-managed (assigned by your department).
- On campus? Log in using WHfB or other authentication method.
- Off campus? Connect to ECU's Virtual Private Network (VPN), then log in using WHfB or other authentication method. First time using the VPN? See these instructions.
Instructions
Step 1. Open File Explorer.
Windows logo key + E on the keyboard.
Step 2. From the folder list (screen left), right-click This PC.
Step 3. Choose Map Network Drive from the fly out menu options.
The Map Network Drive dialog box opens.
Step 4. Configure the shortcut (mapped drive).
- Choose a different drive letter or leave it at the default.
- Type the address (path) to the resource. Example: \\piratedrive.intra.ecu.edu\HOME (or folder-name as the example).
- Slashes lean to the left.
- Check the Reconnect at sign-in box to make the mapped drive available every time you log in.
Step 5. Click the Finish button.
