Overview
The previous reporting process of forwarding to the phish.ecu.edu email has been retired. Please use the following process instead.
Most phishing and junk emails are quarantined by Microsoft Defender before they ever reach your inbox. However, if you suspect an email is a phishing message, report it to Microsoft through the Report button located in the Outlook menu. This process includes shared and delegate mailboxes as well.
No matter which version of Outlook you use, Report is available.
Outlook for Microsoft 365 (desktop app) and Outlook on the Web
Available for Mac and Windows (classic and new Outlook) desktop app and mymail.ecu.edu web Outlook.
Report button
- The email can be open or highlighted in your message list - the Report button is still available.
- Choose the Report option's drop-down arrow.
- Choose Report Phishing. Note you can also report junk email here.
- Choose Report again.
- Delete the suspicious email.

Alternative
- Right-click a suspected phishing message in your email list (message not open).
- From the options menu, choose Report.
- Select Report Phishing.
- Follow any dialog boxes to complete this process.
- Delete the suspicious email.

Android Outlook app
- From the open email, choose the more actions ellipsis (top right).
- Select Report Junk from the drop-down menu.
- Choose Phishing.
- Delete the suspicious email, if needed.
iOS Outlook app
- From the open email, tap the more actions ellipsis (screen bottom).

- Tap Report.
- Delete the suspicious email, if needed.
