Overview
To "map" or "mount" a drive means to create a shortcut to a resource you often use, such as a Piratedrive folder. Please be connected on campus (INTRA) or off campus through a VPN connection.
If you are a student, staff or faculty, and your Windows 10/11 computer is a personal device and not owned by ECU, follow these steps to map a drive (create a shortcut link) to a Piratedrive folder or other ECU network attached storage folder.
Requirements
- Off campus. Connect to the ECU VPN.
- On campus. Please be connected on campus (INTRA)
Instructions
Step 1
Open File Explorer (Windows key + E).
Step 2
From the folder list, right-click This PC. Choose Map Network Drive from the options list. The Map Network Drive dialog box opens.

Step 3
- Leave the drive letter at the default or choose a new one.
- Type the address (path) to the resource such as a Piratedrive folder or other network attached storage folder.
Example: \\piratedrive.intra.ecu.edu\folder-name

- Slashes lean to the left. \\ Replace "folder-name" (see example above) with the actual folder name.
- This example uses piratedrive.
- Your URL/folder name will be different if you are using another NAS server.
Step 4
Check the Connect using different credentials box.
Step 5
Click Finish. The Windows Security dialog box opens.
Step 6
From the Windows Security dialog box, enter your ECU username as follows: intra\username, then the password. Check the Remember my credentials box.

Step 7
Click OK. Your mapped drive is now available from File Explorer's folder tree on the left.
