Overview

Developed by Vanderbilt University, REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure, HIPAA- and FERPA-compliant, web-based application for building and managing online surveys and databases.

As a member of the REDCap consortium, the software and support are available at no charge to ECU users and can be used for research, operational and quality improvement studies with the appropriate approvals.

The REDCap database and servers are housed within ECU's IT infrastructure so all data is secure. Multimedia & Technology Services (MTS) administers the software.

Submit this request for assistance in the development of your data collection instruments. This form is also used to request REDCap support. This would include access problems, data collection problems, or other support issues.

  • The project title, owner, secondary owner and collaborators must be named in the approval letter.

Step 2. Principal investigator submits a REDCap user request for the new project.

Step 3. Project investigators and other personnel should read the REDCap Terms of Use (see Related Articles).

Step 4. Once the REDCap account is created, researchers may log in with ECU credentials (PirateID/password).

*From the IPAR website:

"Any person proposing to administer a survey to more than 200 ECU students, faculty, staff or alumni on university property and/or using university resources must obtain prior approval from the Survey Review and Oversight Committee. You should submit a request using our online request portal.”
