MFA: Phone Call Verification

You will need your computer, mobile device and internet access to complete this process. Setup can be completed on or off campus.


Step 1. Sign in to your Microsoft 365 account: pirate365.ecu.edu

Step 2. Click Set it up now (students) or Next (staff) to open the Additional security verification dialog box.

Step 3. From the How should we contact you? section, choose Authentication phone from the first drop-down menu.

Step 4. Select your country or region from the next drop-down and then enter your mobile number in the third text box.

Step 5. From the Method section, choose Call me. click Next.

Step 6. Answer when your phone rings. An automated message directs you to press the phone's pound (#) key to verify your account.

Congratulations! The primary verification method for your Microsoft 365 account is now set up.

The Additional security verification dialog box contains an app password. If your device does not support the Microsoft Outlook mobile app, you will need to use this password to configure your mobile device's default email. See the MFA Enrollment: App Passwords article for step-by-step instructions.
