Pirate Techs Assisted Password Reset

For better security, all ECU users are required to change their ECU password every 90 days. Occasionally, a password expires or locks and must be reset. We recommend the self-service online portal (Option 1) as the most convenient method for resetting your password.

Option 1. Self Service Maintenance Portal (recommended)

  1. Power off mobile devices or sign out of ECU mobile apps like Outlook mobile.
  2. Log in to the password maintenance portal: https://pirateid.ecu.edu
    • Enter your PirateID and challenge text. Click Next.
    • Answer security questions.
  3. Click the Set Passphrase icon and type the new password.
  4. Click the Main menu button and then the Exit button.
  5. Immediately update the password for mobile apps* or sign in, if prompted.
*Changing your password through the self-service portal does not update your mobile app logins. A mobile app may try to log in using the old password and lock your account. Therefore, always update your mobile device apps immediately after a reset.

Option 2. Visit a Password Reset Location

Present a completed Password Reset Form (see the attachment on this page) along with a valid photo ID (ECU 1 Card, driver's license or government-issued ID) in person to either Pirate Techs TSC below, Monday through Friday between 8:00 - 5:00 (business hours).

  • Austin Building 103 (Main Campus)
  • Laupus Library 1500 (Health Sciences)

Option 3. Email or Fax the IT Service Desk

Pirate Techs staff can reset a student, faculty, staff or alumni password only if the identity of the requester is verified. Therefore, a user must email or fax the Password Reset Form (see the attachment on this page) and a copy of a valid ID (ECU 1 Card, driver's license, or government-issued ID). To protect your personal information, black out all information on the photo ID except your name and photo. Email: hdreset@ecu.edu or fax: 252-737-1715. We will reply to your non-ECU email address an activation code to reset your account
