Overview

Occasionally, a password expires or locks and must be reset. We recommend the self-service online portal (Option 1) as the most convenient method for resetting your password. However, if you need help, we are happy to assist. See options 2 and 3.

Option 1. Microsoft 365 Self-Service Maintenance Portal (Recommended)

The steps below are for current ECU users and alumni who have already activated their PirateID account. First-time users will be prompted to enroll and should follow these account activation instructions. For an overview and instructions (all users), see the Accounts - Access category in the IT Knowledge Base. Note that updating your password through the SSPR portal does not update any mobile app logins.

Active ECU Users and Alumni*
Note that ECU-managed macOS users will maintain their password through their computer.
  1. Log in to passwordreset.microsoftonline.com. The "Get back into your account" dialog box opens.
  2. Type in your FULL ECU email address.
  3. Type in the captcha characters.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Verify your identity using one of your sign-in methods.
  6. Enter and confirm a new 15-digit password.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. See this tutorial (screenshots included) for further info (go to "unlock account").

*Legacy alumni accounts created before 2014 use login.microsoftonline.com for password resets.

Option 2. Visit your nearest Pirate Techs walk-in location

On-campus users can visit any one of four Pirate Techs walk-in locations on campus for assistance from a technician. No appointment necessary. Photo ID required.

Option 3. Submit the online password reset form to the Service Desk

If you are not on campus and cannot reset your password, follow these steps:

  1. Complete and submit the ECU PirateID Password Reset Request.
  2. Upload a picture of your 1 Card or any official government issued photo ID. Cover all info except your name and photo to protect your personal information.

Password reset requests are usually processed within 24 hours. ITCS staff makes every effort to process your request as soon as possible.
