Create Guest Account
Effective March 11, 2025, sponsor.ecu.edu became a single sign on (SSO) service with new sign-in page and required authentication.
All network guests are sponsored by ECU faculty or staff. There are two ways a guess network account is created:
- You create the guest account request (see steps below). The credentials are sent to the guest.
- The guest creates the request which you then approve. The credentials are sent to the guest.
You must be on campus connected to the wired or wireless eduroam network or off campus connected through a virtual private network (VPN). Authentication required on or off campus.
Step 1. Navigate to sponsor.ecu.edu
If on campus, you must be connected to the wired/wireless eduroam network. If off campus, you must be connected through the ECU VPN.
The sponsor.ecu.edu portal opens, sign in with your PirateID and password. The guest account portal opens.
Note: After March 11, 2025, sponsor.ecu.edu becomes a single sign-on (SSO) service. The login page will change and authentication will be required whether on or off campus.
Step 2. Complete the Create Accounts form
From the Create Accounts tab, select the Guest Type from the drop-down menu and complete the Guest Information and Access Information forms. You will need the guest’s first and last name, email address. Click Create.

Step 3. Check information
The Account Information dialog box opens. Check the guest’s information, including the username and password. Click the Notify button.

Step 4. Choose a guest notification method
Choose to print, text or email account details to your guest.

Manage a Guest Account
From the sponsor.ecu.edu site, click the Manage Accountstab to edit a guest’s information. You can edit, resend, suspend, delete, reset password, refresh, extend with other options available through the Settings button.

Approve a Guest-Initiated Account
Follow these instructions to approve a guest-generated network account request. All ECU network guests must have a faculty or staff sponsor.
If on campus, you must be connected to the wired/wireless eduroam network. If off campus, you must be connected through the ECU VPN. The sponsor.ecu.edu portal opens, sign in with your PirateID and password. The guest account portal opens. Note: After March 11, 2025, sponsor.ecu.edu becomes a single sign-on (SSO) service. Step 1. Navigate to sponsor.ecu.edu
The sponsor.ecu.edu portal opens, sign in with your PirateID and password. The guest account portal opens.
Step 2. Choose the Pending Accounts tab
Open the Pending accounts tab, then click the box beside your guest's name. Choose to approve, deny, delete or refresh the request using the buttons on the form.

Text or email the account credentials to the guest. The credentials can also be printed.
