I accept that unauthorized or illegal use of the university network is prohibited. I am responsible for ensuring compliance with East Carolina University’s Copyright Regulation and federal copyright laws. I understand that if the university receives a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) complaint against me, my P2P exception may be revoked and I will be subject to disciplinary action as governed by university policy. Violations of the U.S. Copyright Act could result in the termination of university network service for the offending network device.
I understand that unauthorized downloading and sharing of music, video and software is a violation of Title 17, of the U.S. Copyright Act, Sections 504 and 505 and is punishable with civil and criminal penalties ranging from $750 to $250,000 and up to 10 years of imprisonment.
I understand that this P2P exception is for my computer only. If I get a new computer or use another computer, even if it’s plugged into the same ECU network port, I will be unable to access P2P.
I understand that P2P file sharing access is valid only for the current academic year and it is my responsibility to renew it annually. Approved requests are automatically revoked at the end of each academic year.
