Passphrase Updates While Working Remotely

All ECU users are required to change their passphrase every 90 days. When on campus, this is a smooth process for ECU-managed Mac and Windows computers because the system is connected to the ECU network.

However, if your passphrase is changed while you're off campus (NOT connected to the ECU network), your ECU-managed desktop or laptop computer will not recognize the new passphrase. This mean that, while you use the updated passphrase to log in to email, Teamdynamix, Banner, etc., your computer will only recognize your previous passphrase.

The fix for this problem is to remotely connect to the ECU network through the virtual private network.  Please note that these instructions are for ECU-managed desktop or laptop computers.

Windows

Mac

  1. Log in to the passphrase maintenance website: https://pirateid.ecu.edu
  2. Update your passphrase.
  3. Connect to the ECU Virtual Private Network (VPN): https://remoteaccess.ecu.edu
  4. While connected to the VPN, lock the computer through the Start button.
  5. Unlock the computer and log in using the new passphrase while connected to the VPN.
  6. Disconnect your VPN session.
  1. Connect to the ECU Virtual Private Network (VPN): https://remoteaccess.ecu.edu
  2. Go to the top left of the screen and click the Apple menu.
  3. Click System Preferences.
  4. Click Users & Groups.
  5. Click your account and the Change Password button appears on the right.
  6. Macs adhere to many strict password policies.  Re-using a current password or using anything less than 8 characters will not work.
