Overview

Multifactor authentication (MFA), also called two-step authentication or two-factor verification (2FA), is ECU's security action that verifies (authenticates) your identity during log in to ECU resources.

For a successful log in, you need your ECU password (factor one) plus identity verification through a phone call, email, text or app notification using a device (factor two).

All PirateID users who log in to ECU resources are required to set up Azure MFA through Microsoft 365 after activating their PirateID or alumni account.

Why is MFA a requirement?

A password alone only offers limited protection against unauthorized access to ECU's information.  ECU is committed to compliance with federal and state laws, contractual agreement protections while meeting the reasonable expectations of our students, staff and other regarding the protection of ECU data.
